MOST HOLY TRINITY

The Trinity tops the poll when it comes to the top ten matters of catechesis. Before we delve into learning prayers, or worship, we have to become familiar with the Trinity. We easily forget that we do this in many ways – by blessing ourselves at the beginning of Mass, or at meals, before we run a race or take-off in a plane: “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.” It is so much second nature to us, that we can barely see the wood for the trees.
It makes sense that those who are being taught about the faith should learn about the Trinity first. Yet, no matter how much we learn, they will never entirely solve the mystery of the Trinity. We have all learned that lesson. God is a mystery. And that mystery has chosen to reveal himself as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Maybe we struggle with the idea of a chauvinistic image of God. No doubt, God does not have gender in the way that we do. Indeed Wisdom is presented to us both as female and as God’s Spirit. We must remember that chauvinism seeks to suppress one gender to the other. God does not seek to suppress anyone. God seeks to liberate, to redeem and to set free. The Trinity is an image of the love of God, beautifully expressed in today’s First reading:
“I was by his side, a master craftsman, delighting him day after day, ever at play in his presence, at play everywhere in his world, delighting to be with the sons of men.” |

PRAYER TO OUR LADY FOR CHILDREN WHO HAVE STRAYED FROM THE FAITH
A number of Parishioners have requested a copy of the following prayer that is on display in our church at the shrine of Our Lady
Heavenly Mother,
Keep us always in mind of your Son’s great mercy and understanding as we pray for our children. They are grown up now and living their lives according to their own ideas. We feel anxious and worried because they do not seem to feel the need of Christ to understand the wisdom of His ways or to be fully at ease with themselves or us.
Intervene, dear Mother, in their lives, at the moment you know to be right and help them understand the things that lead to their peace.
Help them to see their need of Christ and to experience the greatness of His love, so that we may all proclaim as you did that His mercy is truly from generation to generation. Amen
