St Oliver Plunkett
Parish Bulletin for Sunday 28th February 2010

Second Sunday of Lent

CHILD PROTECTION AND PARISH WORKERS

The Catholic Church throughout Ireland has put together new guidelines for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.

Within the Diocese of Down and Connor we are intent on implementing these guidelines to the full. Consequently it is now a requirement that all invited volunteers are required to attend a parish information session at which awareness of Child Protection issues will be raised. Invited volunteers who fail to attend the Parish Information Session must stand down from their parish duties (as they are not covered by Diocesan insurance) until they have attended a session. As your ongoing contribution to parish work is highly appreciated and greatly valued, I hope you will make every effort to attend a session when invited.

Fr Martin Magill

The Parish is running a Drop-In Café for young people

Every Friday in Lent

You are invited to the
Stations of the Cross at 6.50pm followed by evening Mass at 7.30pm

The Garment of Suffering

During Lent we ask that you bring to the church a piece of cloth about four to six inches square and leave it in the basket in the middle of the church.

Your piece of cloth can represent the pain, grief or hurt in your life

The pieces of cloth will be collected and sewn together into one complete garment. On Good Friday after the Veneration of the Cross the garment will be draped over the Cross and left there throughout Easter.
At Pentecost the garment will be removed and burnt.
During Lent and Easter, we will pray to be healed.
