Palm Sunday
Pastoral
Letter
As
we move towards the Easter Triduum
The long preparation
of Lent leads us into Holy Week. Over
three days in the liturgies of Holy
Thursday, Good Friday and Easter we
celebrate and encounter the dynamics
of the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ.
Through our Lenten exercises and the
celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation
/ Confession, we prepare ourselves
to open our hearts and minds to the
saving grace of the mysteries of Christ’s
life and mission, of his passion and
death, and of his resurrection from
among the dead.
Easter, the feast
of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ,
is the oldest feast of the Christian
year. In the first centuries of the
Christian era the catechumens, having
watched in vigil on Saturday night,
were baptised early on Easter morning.
Easter was the moment when they were
initiated into the life of Christ
and into the life of the Church. Henceforth,
like all baptised now and then, they
were called to follow “the way”,
to live a life of faith, informed
by the virtues of hope and charity.
