Sunday in Ordinary Time
| It's the time of stretched family budgets as September routine beckons on the family horizon. Somewhere along the line from birth, schooling, various ocasions like communions and confirmation, hanging out with friends and parties - something happens. We've learned that many things usually have a price tag. The best things in life may be free, but a considerable amount of things are not! So, while the young strain to be "all grown up" and treated as such - those richer in years know that adulthood is a double edged sword. It brings both privilege and responsibility. To Jesus, being grown up apparently means denying yourself, taking up your cross, and following him. Being grown up means spending your life in service to others. Does this mean you can never aspire for a manicure, gold cuff-links, coveted golf membership or the finer things in life? No it means that you try, first and foremost, to follow Christ. The two are not necessarily incompatible. But God is not impressed with those who have gained the whole world forfeiting their lives. There are many things in life we think are important. Jesus says there's only one thing important. One thing. That one thing is our souls. Think about it. Which will you be more likely remembered for: the contents of your wallet or the depth of your character?
"What profit is there, if you gain the world but lose your soul?"
End of story.

Used Stamps For The Leprosy Mission

Used stamps are a useful source of income for the Leprosy Mission. Stamps from all countries are aceptable, even ordinary 1st and 2nd class stamps. A small number of interesting foreign stamps are sifted out, washed off the paper, dried and sold througbh local stamp clubs. The vast remaining bulk is put into bags each containing 1kg in weight and sold to stamp dealers in England. A few bags are sold from the Leprosy Mission HQ in Lisburn to local stamp collectors.
Leave about a quarter of an inch of the envelope round the stamp when tearing it off. Please note there is a Leprosy Mission Used Stamp Box in the porches for anyone wishing to donate their used stamps. |
