St Oliver Plunkett
Parish Bulletin for Sunday 13th July 2008

15th Sunday in Ordinary Time

“Sower, you walk the acre of the heart, flinging seeds, ‘flaithiúlacht’ from your bag. Foolish sower, careless with the seed of life that falls on rock, in thorns and on the trodden path. Still, every human heart has some ground for hope, rich, deep soil, ploughed and harrowed brown.

Sower of the seed that bears the grain of truth, scatter your seeds to the winds. Allow them fall graciously on the soil of my heart.

Reclaim my stony soil and brambled patch. Make my heart fertile, to fill the haggard with ‘crop a hundredfold’.

Sower, plough the rock hard field of my life, never looking back.

This soil resists the seeds of faith and life and truth. Take away the rock in my heart and use it to foundation Peter’s house.

Sower, reclaim my soil from briar and thistle thorn, the prickly parts that cause needless hurt. Still, allow the sparrow come and eat some seed along the path, and so to sing your Sermon on the Mount. Sower, use the soil, that is evergreen with hope, to scatter seed for bread to feed a hungry world.”

Amen.

PATHWAYS

-Adult Faith Development Programme for the Diocese of Down & Connor at Drumalis -

The principal purpose of this programme, now in its third year at Drumalis, is to offer a space for reflection and discussion about Life, Faith and Ministry. According to Bishop McKeown, “The Pathways programme has opened up new horizons for many people.”

This two-year programme supported by All Hallows and the Diocese of Down and Connor runs from September to May each year and will be held on nine Saturdays from 10:00 am - 4:30 pm at Drumalis. For further information and booking form, please contact Drumalis – 028 2827 2196/2827 6455 or email drumalis@btconnect.com

A July Saint Saint Martha

29th July

We learn of Martha from the gospels. She was sister of Mary and Lazarus who lived at Bethany. Their home was a place of welcome for Jesus. Martha is associated with the practical side of hospitality, such as preparing meals, while her sister Mary is often portrayed as the contemplative one who likes to sit at the feet of Jesus listening to his words. But Martha is a woman of faith. She proclaims her faith in Jesus as ‘the Christ, the Son of God’. This faith is prelude to the raising to life of her dead brother Lazarus. The feast of Saint Martha is celebrated each year on 29th July
