St Oliver Plunkett
Parish Bulletin for Sunday 1st June 2008

9th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus blesses the children

The Gospel passage today comes from the end of the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus describes what it takes to be a true and faithful disciple.

To be a true Christian involves a daily commitment to demonstrate our love of God and neighbour. Jesus uses the image of a person building their house on a solid foundation to capture the strength of a Christian who devotes him or herself to following the call of God.

Life is full of hardships, but the person who commits to following Jesus truly will come through the hard times with their hope and faith intact. The person who does not commit him or herself to developing this relationship with God and neighbour build his or her house on sand and run the risk of being destroyed facing the storms and temptations of life.
