| Fifth Sunday Of Easter
|

Often when we hear the word 'vocation' we think only of the call to religious life or priesthood, we seldom apply it to ourselves.
This year of vocation, being held by the Irish Church from Vocation Sunday 13th April 2008 to Vocation Sunday 3rd May 2009, will be a time to remind all in the Church that through baptism everyone is called to follow Christ and that we do this in many ways:
- through marriage
- through a chosen single life
- through religious life, priesthood, brotherhood
- through all the many ways in which we live our lives.
As the Christian community needs to support vocations to the priesthood and to consecrated life, Bishops ask that we listen to the Lord’s call and pray at this time for vocations to the priesthood and the religious life.

Dear Parishioners of St Oliver Plunkett,
I write to inform you of the progress of our Diocesan Appeal ‘Planning for the Future’ both as regards your parish and the aims of the Appeal
You the parishioners of St Oliver Plunkett were set a target of £67,133. You made commitments of £78,631 of which you have now contributed £54,948 with a further £7,493 in gift aid, making a total of £62,441. My sincerest thanks to all.
You are now very close to your target which, please God, you will attain. Your parish will then receive back 10% of the target figure plus 75% of the excess. I know that you will keep up your good efforts.
You will be pleased to know that at present 62 of our 88 parishes have exceeded their target and a total amount of £3,281,089 has now been returned to those parishes.
Further amounts have been assigned to the three aims of the appeal viz: Sick & Retired Priests - £50,000, Faith Development - £50,000 and Cathedral Restoration - £40,000 making what they received £2,455,074, £2,455,074 and £1,964,059 respectively.
The undertaking of the Diocesan-wide Appeal for the very necessary aims was a great act of faith, faith in the generosity of so very many loyal and faithful people, whom I have been privileged to serve during my years as Bishop.
I pray God’s blessing on St. Oliver Plunkett parish.
Yours sincerely
+Patrick Walsh. |

Milltown "Restoration" Fortnight
Monday 28th April ’08 – Friday 9th May ‘08 In June 2002, Citywide Enterprise Ltd in conjunction with the trustees of Milltown Cemetery, embarked on a maintenance project in Milltown Cemetery. Such was the success of the project that a dedicated company, Citywide Regeneration Project (CCR) Ltd, has been formed to continue the good work.
Now, in an effort to restore the tradition of respect for graves in Milltown Cemetery, CCR Ltd are proposing another intensive 2 week project to encourage the return of Leaseholders to the cemetery. Leaseholders and those who have loved ones interred in the cemetery are invited to come along during this time and tend to the graves for which they are responsible.
CCR Ltd will provide whatever backup assistance they can. Those who do not have grave plots in the cemetery but are interested in offering their services, should contact CCR Ltd 9061 3972 |

Questions People Ask ...
 |
Every now and then I think I have a vocation from God to be a priest. What should I do about it? |
Answer: |
Talk about it to a priest, preferably one who knows you, and pray to the Holy Spirit for guidance. Every diocese and religious order organises Vocation Days to help people to discern their calling. A vocation to priesthood is a grace given to an individual for the service of the church community. Basic requirements of a genuine vocation to the priesthood would include a desire to commit one’s life to God and the service of people, a sound faith, regular Mass attendance and prayer, the ability to co-operate with others and being willing to obey authority. |
