St Oliver Plunkett
Parish Bulletin for Sunday 28th October 2007

Thirtieth Sunday In Ordinary Time

Do I really believe I need God’s help in my life? How quick am I to judge others? Do I see myself as superior to others apparently not as fortunate as myself?

Christ always had a special place for the poor. The poor are God’s ‘little people’, for whom society has little time but who are open to Good News of salvation. They know they need God. The poor are those whom society, in the person of the Pharisee, looks down upon – all kinds of social and religious rejects, those marginalised one way or another. Pope Benedict said that often the greatest poverty is the absence of God in the lives of people.

Rather than judge and despise the poor we are called by our baptism to reflect God’s love to them without discrimination, on the street, in the market place, wherever the need is.

Our missionary attitude to the poor is the test of our love of God and our commitment to Christ.
