Twentieth
Sunday In Ordinary Time
It
would be interesting to see how many
non-Christians would identify the
Gospel text today as sacred, if it
were displayed alongside other contemporary
writings. Who knows, some might even
think it was Al Quaida rather than
words spoken bu Jesus, the Prince
of Peace. It doesn't quite fit in,
dows it, with the image of the love
of God the Father Jesus brought before
us? Read it again to get the shock
of what is being said.
It
speaks of opposites, of black and
white when increasingly we think of
grey, nothing ruled in or out. But
Jesus comes not only to bless the
world but also to change it. It is
a work of transformation so searing
it is like fire buring a way the old
so that something unminstakably new
can begin. We are not to be a people
or Church of complacency and conformity,
but a church that dares to be a source
of division and misunderstanding for
the sake of justice.
Anyhow,
disagreement and frustration with
each other comes easy to us. Wer ate
divided. That;s true in all families,
communities, and churches. In this
world, there is no life together without
a shodow. In faith circles alone,
we argue about God, Jesus, church,
morality, worship, spirituality, justice,
discipleship. It creates a holy tension,
which however uncomfortable is good.
Wer need to carry all together for
Christ.

Church
Door Collection
Melanie
Donegan from Falcarragh Drive will
be holding a church door collection
next weekend 25th & 26th August
after all the Masses. Melanie will
be travelling to Thailand in September
as part of a volunteer group involved
with Serve. Serve is an initiative
committed to tackling world poverty
emerging from partnership relationships
between young Irish adults, Irish
Redemppppptorists, Good Shepherd
Sisters and marginalized communities
in the developing world.
She
is going to Pattaya to live and
work for 6 weeks in The Good Shepherd's
Foundation of Life Centre, an Outreach
project to women in prostitution.
Here they re-skill and educate young
girls and women who find themselves
involved in prostitution. This Centre
gives women an alternative, giving
them hope, food and a sense of belonging
and self respect. Most of these
women are not edicatted due to gender
inequality. She will also be working
with AIDS and disabled orphans who
are either orphaned by AIDS or left
on a street due to the stigmatisation
of having a child with any discbility.
Last
year she travelled to South Africa
and Mozambique to work with AIDS
related projects. Her story is featured
on our Parish website along with
some photos.
All
money raised goes directly to the
project. |

Interested in Gardening

Anyone interested in gardening with time to spare?
Maybe you are retired or would just like to have an interest that would benefit your parish. Our Church grounds have a lot of trees, plants etc and of course weeds. To help keep the grounds in a presentable condition we are appealing to any parishioner who may have time to spare to come forward. Any help that can be given would be much appreciated by your parish.
If anyone interested in becoming part of the parish Gardening Club please come to a meeting in the parish hall on Tuesday 21st August at 3.30pm.
