St Oliver Plunkett
Parish Bulletin for Sunday 5th November 2006

31st Sunday in Ordinary Time

November is the month of the Holy Souls when we pray for all our dead relatives and friends. Each weekday 10am Mass during November will be offered for all those mentioned in our November Dead Lists.

‘Those who die in grace
Go no further from us
Than God
And God is very near.’

Eternal rest grant unto them O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon them may they rest in peace. Amen.

Questions People Ask

Why should we pray for the souls in purgatory?

Answer
Just as one part of the physical body can help another by soothing a suffering or sharing a burden, as parts of the Mystical Body of Christ we can help one another in spiritual ways. Membership of the Mystical Body extends beyond the grave. For our beloved departed who are being purified until they reflect the total brightness of the beatific vision, our ways of spiritual assistance are prayer, especially participation in Mass, works of generosity and offering our sufferings in union with the redemptive suffering of Jesus.
