St

Parish Bulletin for Sunday 15th October 2006
CELEBRATING
30 YEARS
7TH OCTOBER – 13TH OCTOBER 2006

28th
Sunday in Ordinary Time
The
young man in today’s gospel is seeking Jesus.
He loves his riches more than Jesus, and so he
went away sad. His riches have become a stumbling
block to following Christ. We must help this young
man to come back to Christ.
He
is very much alive and around today. He appears
in the figure of a learned philosopher who wants
to argue away the existence of God. He is that
man who has been gifted by God to explore the
intricacies of created matter, and ends up proclaiming
that there is no spirit. He is that man, who manipulating
cells ‘creates’ his own human being,
declaring him to be in his own image and likeness.
He is that person in the medical field who believes
that he has power over life and death. He enacts
laws that negate the fundamental elements of human
dignity. He is the arms dealer. He is the industrialist
who pollutes. He is the politician with no moral
compass.
We must bring the Christian message to the whole
world. As we go about this message, let us not
forget that we too could become rich, and walk
away from Christ, sad.

| Unity
Pilgrims
In response to the prayer of Jesus at the Last
Supper,
‘Father,
may they all be one.’
On
Sunday 29th October a group from our parish will
go as Unity Pilgrims in a spirit of faith and
friendship to the 11.30 morning service at St.
Matthews Church of Ireland and Shankill Mission
Presbyterian Church.
We welcome interested parishioners to join in
this pilgrimage and in future occasional visits.
Pilgrims attend Mass in their own Church on Saturday
evening or Sunday morning. We will meet at St.
Oliver Plunkett at 11am for a short prayer and
a blessing before we go to the Shankill churches.
Unity Pilgrims from some other parishes will accompany
us, some of whom have visited St. Matthew’s
and Shankill Mission many times over the last
few years. There is always a warm welcome from
the ministers and their congregations.
