St Oliver Plunkett
Parish Bulletin for Sunday 4th June 2006

Feast of Pentecost

Pentecost saw the birth of a new community, the new People of God. Today then is the birthday of the Church. This is the day the apostles left the upper room, where they had been hiding for fear of the Jews, and went out fearlessly to preach the Gospel. They could not have done this without “power from on high”, that is, the Holy Spirit.

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful,
And kindle in them the fire of your love.
Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created.
And they shall renew the face of the earth.

St. Oliver Plunkett Pre-School Playgroup

St. Oliver Plunkett Pre-School Playgroup will be having a sponsored Balloon Race. Name and contact plus £1 will be collected after all the Masses today.

On the 9th of June the balloons will be released with contact details on them and the balloon found furthest away will receive a prize.

Please support our young children who receive an excellent pre-school education. The money raised will go towards extra necessary equipment. Thank you for your support.

Coffee/Tea Morning

Fiona McMahon, one of our parishioners, under the Auspices of ‘Serve’ Redemptorist Community, is going to Africa to work with women and children who are innocent victims of H.I.V. She has asked for our prayers to help her in this work.

Fiona also needs a lot of financial help and to this end a Coffee/Tea Morning is being held in the church hall on Saturday 17th June from 10.30am – 12noon. Please come along and bring your friends and neighbours, your support and generosity are needed. All donations will be gratefully received.

To prepare for this there will be a number of refurbishments around the Church. Next week the repainting of the inside of the Church will get underway. Suggestions of how we can mark the 30th anniversary are especially welcome.
