Prayer Of Thanksgiving
Our lives are so busy, let us remember to say thanks to God for the blessings in our lives
O God, we thank you for this earth,
our home;
For the wide sky and the blessed sun,
For the salt sea and the running water,
For the everlasting hills
And the never-resting winds,
For trees and the common grass underfoot.
We thank you for our senses
By which we hear the songs of birds,
And see the splendor of the summer fields,
And taste of the autumn fruits,
And rejoice in the feel of the snow,
And smell the breath of the spring.
Grant us a heart wide open to all this beauty;
And save our souls from being so blind
That we pass unseeing
When even the common thornbush
Is aflame with your glory,
O God our creator,
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.

Emergency appeal for Burma
after Cyclone Nargis
Trócaire has launched an emergency appeal for the people of Burma after a cyclone ripped through the country over the weekend, killing over 20,000 people and leaving hundreds of thousands of people homeless.
“Access for aid workers is difficult right now,” according to Maurice McQuillan, head of Trócaire’s emergency team. “Getting into Burma is our main priority so that we can assess the damage and get food, shelter, clean water and medical assistance to where it’s needed. Burma is a poor country and will need a lot of help to cope with a disaster of this scale”.
The storm, called Cyclone Nargis, hit on the morning of Saturday, May 3, destroying tens of thousands of homes and badly damaging infrastructure in Burma’s largest city Yangon (Rangoon).
“Trócaire has been working in Burma since 1995 and we’re asking the public to support the people of Burma, who are unbelievably vulnerable at this time”.
